(Isa 9:6 KJV) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Wonderful
He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than all the angels (Heb.1:4). His name is exalted above every name (Php.2:9-11). In his name we receive many wonderful blessings (Jn.14:13,14) and fullness of joy (Jn.16:23,24).
Counsellor
He is the one to whom we can go when in need (Heb.4:12-16). It is He who has the words of eternal life (Jn.6:68). He, being the Word of God (Jn.1:1-3,14), can be our delights and counsellor (Ps. 119:24). How happy is the man who turns to Him for direction (Ps.1:1-3)!
The Mighty God
None in heaven or in earth can be compared to Him (Ps.89:6,7). He is unique, He is great, and His name is great because of His power (Jer.10:6). He is the Lord God omnipotent who reigns over all (Rev.19:6).
The Everlasting Father
He is one with the Father and keeps His people securely (Jn.10:27-30). Those who saw Him saw the Father (Jn.12:44;14:9). It is He who is the perfect and unchanging source of blessing to those who delight in Him (Jas.1:17;Ps.37:4).
Prince of Peace
He is ordained of God an high priest after the order of the King of Peace (Melchisedec) (Heb.5:5,6;7:1). He is our peace (Eph.2:14-17) who has reconciled us to God by Himself (2Cor.5:17-21).
