This is a language I'm playing with as a psychological experiment; I'm trying for a balance of exoticity and learnability so I can try out new grammatic and semantic structures and see how they affect my thinking -- and whether in fact I am able to learn to use them automatically. I also stocked the phoneme inventory with several exotic sounds that I could (at the time I created the language or added them to it) just barely pronounce. To compensate, I severely limited the ways consonants can cluster. I've been intermittently keeping my journal in gjâ-zym-byn since about 2001 (for the first couple of years I was not yet fluent enough in it, nor did it have a large enough vocabulary, to use it thus), and re-reading old journal entries (besides a few original stories and several translations) from time to time to build fluency. I also use gzb for prayer. The language has changed a lot over the last ten years -- primarily in the first two years (I kept altering the phonology for the first twenty-six months, and made major alterations to the grammar in the first year), but some aspects of the grammar have still not quite settled down (conditional/subjunctive clauses, for instance, and argument structures of some verbs), and of course I add new root words from time to time as I think of a concept that I can't conveniently express with a short compound, or finally decide that an existing compound is too long for frequent use. I am working on an essay describing my experiences developing, learning and using the language, still unfinished. I am also doing research on the general phenomenon of conlangers learning their own conlangs fluently and using them for various purposes. In 2008 I conducted a survey on that subject, and gave a talk on the subject at the third Language Creation Conference on 21 March, 2009. I'm working (very intermittently) on an article on the subject, which I promised to Rick Harrison for his zine Invented Languages. Since he's announced that he's ceasing publication of this zine due to health problems, I'm not sure where I'll submit it when published; probably to the still-tentative Language Creation Society anthology. I'll still accept survey responses up until I finish the article. I recently had someone express serious interest in learning gzb; we've created a mailing list to archive our discussions. Jen lingvo kiun mi daŭre konstruas por mia persona amuzo, ne kiel kunkuranto de Esperanto, nek kiel mongajnilo kiel la klingona, nek kiel artaĵo kiel kelkaj artaj lingvoj, sed kiel privata psika eksperimento. Mia celo estas krei lingvon, strangan sed lerneblan, kiun mi povas ellerni kreante ĝin, kaj, pensante per ĝi, pripensi aferojn nove se ne novajn. Miaj celoj estas parte similaj al tiuj de Zamenhof, krom la internacieco kaj facila prononcebleco. Mi emas krei multajn vortojn el malgranda radikaro kaj fleksa afiksaro, kiel ĉe Esperanto, ekzemple. Mi ankaŭ kreis la rolmontrilojn (prepoziciojn) kaj ligvortojn (kiaj 'kaj', 'aŭ', 'nek', ktp) kunmete, kiel la korelativojn Esperantajn. Gramatike la lingvo tre malsimilas al Esperanto; nur la alglua eco similas, la vortordo kaj la kategorioj esprimitaj per fleksio estas malsamaj. Semantike, mi plurkampe emas reprezenti miajn proprajn penskategoriojn, nek internaciajn nek usonkulturajn, kaj provi influi miajn kategori-pensojn per invento de novaj signif-dividoj. Fonetike, mi provizis la lingvon per ekzotikaj sonoj, kiujn mi apenaŭ povis elparoli; post plurjara ekzercado mi plejparte sed ne tute fluiĝis pri ili. Mi ekfaris la lingvon en marto 1998. Dum la unuaj du jaroj, la lingvo estis en tre ŝanĝema stato; mi aldonis kaj forigis plurajn fonemojn, kaj radikale aliigis la gramatikon du aŭ tri fojojn. Mi ankaŭ kreadis novajn radikojn (kaj afiksojn kaj partikulojn), kompreneble. Post ĉirkaŭ du jaroj, mi ekuzis la lingvon por mia taglibro; ankaŭ post tiu tempo, mi ĉefe verkis miajn notojn pri la lingvo en la lingvo mem. (Tial la esperantlingvaj dokumentoj en ĉi tiu sitejo estas tre eksdataj.) Komprenu bone: mi ne uzadas nur gjâ-zym-byn por mia taglibro -- mi ne estas tiel flua en ĝi -- sed mi provas uzi ĝin sufiĉe ofte por resti kaj iĝi pli flua. Mi ja iom fluiĝis en almenaŭ la skriba formo de la lingvo per tiu metodo; foje mi uzas nur gxin en la taglibro dum pluraj sinsekvaj semajnoj, kaj fine re-ekuzas la anglan aux Esperanton kiam mi havas multon por diri en mallonga tempo. Krom la taglibro (kaj malmultaj originalaj rakontoj, kaj pluraj tradukoj), mi ankaŭ uzas la lingvon por preĝado (ĉefe mallongaj ekkriaj preĝetoj, ekz. {*ť o Ќ hǒl mwe}: "ke mia tuta memo iĝu via". |
