Classic Xcell 60

Check out my XL upgrade history sheet HERE

With the old parts left over, I am building a SECOND XL.  I am keeping it with the old style equipment and using that tired webra engine.  I might even put a scale fuse. on it!

This machine had humble beginnings, but she is really a good flyer, that is only if I do my part.

Check out those 80’s BUILT-UP wood blades, they do work OK, but carbon blades are in my future.

This heli was the vehicle for my university’s Aerial Robotics Team.  This thing just was flown with a bunch of computers.  A member ended up donating it to the team.  I found a yearbook where this heli was flying at the robotics competition in 1995.  I guess that kind of sets the date of this machine a little.

It still has all of the original equipment, except the radio which has been upgraded (very smart!).  I got rid of the mechanical gyro, even though it worked just fine.

I added a new filter and a header tank.  It is not that fuel delivery was all that bad, but the extra capacity is very welcome.

The Webra 61 engine runs well, despite the multitude of runs it must have had.  I installed a replacement cylinder head to fix the glow plug leak it had.

Originally the “U” pipe was run through the frame right-to-left, but this got oil all over the skids and everywhere, so it hangs out like this.

The heli had a general disassembly last year and the plywood radio tray was re-painted.  It actually looks good with the exception of the ugly pipe on it.  It is the M.A. “U” pipe on it, which is good and expensive in it’s own right.
