Who we are...
Jerry Hinkle
Originally interested in becoming a fashion illustrator Jerry worked at
Burdine's department store sketching models. He borrowed a camera from a
friend and a seed was planted.
Jerry worked as an assistant in a photo lab learning from practical
experience, shooting copy negatives, developing film, printing and
pestering his reluctant teacher and boss, Gordon B Ames to teach him
things. He spent more on paper and film than he earned working there but
he was inspired by the books Gordon showed him. He shot all kinds of
subjects and jobs to keep making enough money to live on and take
pictures.
With only the bravado that a beginner can muster Jerry took his book to some
advertising agencies and he was hired. Within a few months he was shooting for
Flagler Federal Bank, Mayor's Jewelers and Lillie Rubin Stores. He did freelance
shoots for Jordan Marsh Department Stores and 24 Collection. Jerry's love
of shooting beautiful women began to become a reality and he was able to realize
one of his early dreams, to have ads running in Vogue and Bazaar. Catalog work
for manufacturers followed, Twins Swimsuits, Dynamic Sportswear, Dillard's, he
shot everything from T-shirts to evening gowns.
In the early 80's when South Beach was just beginning to buzz with the locals
as a good place to shoot we began to get our first clients from Europe. Il
Telaio agency in Venice,
Bazaar Italia, Wörhl fur Mich from Germany. Their enthusiasm for shooting here changed
Miami from a local scene to an international one, bringing with it the need for
more and better quality of models and agents, labs and suppliers and support
like RV's and catering.
Throughout his career Jerry has been praised for his ability to put people at
ease and make them look their best. This quality makes him a great choice when
the subject is not a professional model. Jerry enjoys portrait and P.R.
work as much as fashion and has worked with hundreds of actors, musicians,
dancers, and children.
Jerry began shooting lifestyle photos at the request of our model friends who
were getting older and wanted him to shoot them in a less fashion style and more
"real people doing things" style. This has brought yet another
dimension to his work and led to getting picked up by a stock agency (SuperStock).
After doing photography for such a long time, shooting with Jerry is always a
smooth experience. Even if everything is going wrong, he is a rock in the
middle of a raging wind. He is always calm. The pictures always come out great,
he works hard but everyone has fun on the sets and the bills always look just
like the estimates. The models and assistants love him. A client's dream.
Jerry's personal hobbies include muscle cars, he is a NASCAR racing fan and
on-line racer and taking care of 18 cats and a baby squirrel.
Hillary has always had an interest in fashion and art. She studied art and
illustration in high school and majored in art at Hunter College in NYC. She
worked as a textile repeat artist and jewelry designer before moving to
Florida.
As Jerry was learning photography, Hillary began to learn how to prepare the
models makeup, hair and wardrobe for shoots. She has been working with Jerry
since 1980 managing the studio and doing makeup and hair. Currently she has been doing
digital retouching and creating art from Jerry's photos. Learning web design,
digital photography
and all kinds of computer programs keeps her busy.
Personal interests include metaphysics, healing, internet chat, fps
computer games and cats.
