NewBBRCruncher was developed to make using the command line interface (CLI) of SETI@Home as simple as possible.  After installation, it will download all programs and configuration files needed to get you crunching SETI@Home work units.

SETI@Home Command Line Interface SETI@Home Developers Does the SETI science work (Work Unit Cruncher).
SETI Driver Mike Ober Controls the CLI and creates log file entries used by SETI Spy.
SETI Spy Roelof J. Engelbrecht Controls SETI Driver, calculates lots of stats and displays graphs of interesting data.

Step-by-step roadmap on how to use the program.

  1. Unpack the downloaded ZIP/ZIPEXE file.

  2. Run SETUP.EXE to install the program.

  3. Are you connected to the Internet?

  4. Find NewBBRCruncher in your Programs list and run it.

  5. Click through the introduction slides. (Please read the final slide twice.)

  6. You are now given a choice on where to install the SETI@Home programs.

  7. Next enter the e-mail address you will be/are using with the SETI project.

  8. If the e-mail address is not active you will be asked if you want to create a new SETI@Home account.

    1. The new account is created by running the CLI and entering a '1' for new user followed by several more questions.  (NewBBRCruncher is idle during this time, so all of your information goes to Berkeley not to my program.)

    2. When you have answered all the questions, the CLI will download a work unit (It is not lost and will be processed).

    3. After the WU has downloaded, close the DOS window and NewBBRCruncher will resume.

  9. The program now checks to see if you are a BroadbandReports.Com Team Starfire member.  If you're not a member, it will guide you through joining the team. (If you refuse to join, the program will not continue.)

  10. Next, select one of the Team Queues or Berkeley as your source for Work Units.

  11. The remaining files are copied to your PC and SETI Spy is started which in turn starts SETI Driver.

  12. You should now see two dish antennas in the system tray.
  13. Double click the red dish to open the SETI Driver configuration screen.

  14. Set 'Maximum Processes' to the number of CPUs in your system.  If you have 2 or more processors a 'Processor Affinity' checkbox will be visible.  Checking this box will run each process on a specific processor.

  15. Change the 'Desired Cache Size' to 1 or more then click on 'Save Config' followed by 'Transmit'. SETI Driver will begin downloading WUs until the desired cache size is reached (It opens/closes DOS windows to do this. So just relax for a moment.).

  16. Now MINIMIZE SETI DriverCAUTION: Clicking X kills SETI Driver and the CLI(s).  You must then right click on SETI Spy and EXIT it.  Then restart SETI Spy and it will start SETI Driver which will start the CLI.
