Cpt. Eli Lilly

The members of Lilly's Battery are dedicated to portraying the Artillery soldier of the US Civil War. With regard to both Federal and Confederate impressions, the unit has been invited to participate in living history presentations at various National Battlefields many times, has been featured in a number of historical documentaries (Chattanooga Civil War Museum, PBS), and participates in national level reenactments and memorials.  The unit also assisted by pulling and providing a horse drawn limber and caisson that  was used in the reburial of the first crew of the CSS Hunley in Charleston, SC.  Most recently the unit participated in the Port Gibson preservation march in Mississippi.

Formed by Kent Oestenstad in 1993, the 18th Indiana Light Artillery has evolved from a man harness-powered single gun and limber combination to a six team, horse drawn gun limber and caisson unit. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, the unit draws member support from Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
