Robert Jamison (Sr?) was born circa 1750 at Ulster, Ireland; (Pure guess).
He was the son of John Jamison.
Robert Jamison (Sr?) was The Ship "Lord Dunluce" was captained byCaptain GILLIES, from Larne, Antrim, Ireland. It arrived Charleston on the Sabbath, December 20, 1772. One of the five ships that arrived Dec 20, 1772 in Charleston Harbor. Compiled by Reveille from COUNCIL JOURNAL 37, page 15-25, Meeting of January 6, 1773. On 20 December 1772 at "Lord Dunluce", Charleston, Charleston District, SC.1 He wasGranted Land From the SC Dept. of Archives & History: Series Number:S213184 Volume: 0019 Page:00489 Item:02 Date: 1774/06/06 Description: JAMISON, ROBERT, PLAT FOR 250 ACRES IN CRAVEN COUNTY. Names Indexed: JAMISON, ROBERT/COULTER, ROBERT/CASKEY, JOHN/HUTSON, THOMAS/GRIMBS, DAVID/COULTIER, MARY/TURNER, ALEXANDER/BREMAR, JOHN/ Locations: CRAVEN COUNTY/ROCKY RIVER Type: PLAT/ on 6 June 1774 at 250 Acres on Rocky Creek, Craven County, SC.2 He It appears that Robert Jamison allowed his Plat for the 250 acres of land in Craven County that was granted in 1772 to lapse, and a land speculator by the name of Thomas Singleton picked up a total of 3,600 acres of lapsed plats/grants in various counties on the same day. One possible theory as to why he allowed his Warrant and Survey to lapse might be the following: 1.) He was required to travel to Charleston in person which was about 175 miles, and would have taken at least a week down and a week returning. This was an expense of time and money. Many people who had obtained their survey, simply continued to work the land and never bothered to get the final Grant. When they died, they simply transfered the land by Will. 2.) He would have been required to pay a quit rent of 4-5 Shillings. Thomas Singleton must have disposed of this land during his lifetime, as it was NOT Willed to any members of his family. See Thomas Singleton in this database. On 4 May 1775 at Charleston County, SC.3,4 He bought land THIS INDENTURE MADE THE THIRD DAY OF SEPTEMBER IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THREE IN THE IN THE SEVENTH YEAR OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE BETWEEN ELISHA DYE & ROBERT DYE OF SUMPTER COUNTY IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA PLANTERS OF THE ONE PART & ROBERT JAMISON OF THE COUNTY & STATE AFORESAID OF THE OTHER PART PLANTERS WITHEFORTH THAT BY A CERTAIN GRANT BEARING DATE THE SEVENTH DAY OF APRIL 1770 UNDER THE HAND OF THE HONORAUBLE WILLIAM BULL GOVERNER COMMANDER OF THE THEN PROVINCE OF SOUTH CAROLINA & THE GREAT SEAL OF THE SAME FOR THAT __.
