He Robert Beverly says 1793 Nat # SAR 943, DAR TX records: Ann Ty Tyree Left native state of NC, first went to Caledonia, Mo., then to Clark Co. Arkansas 1860 Arkansas Clark Co. South Fork Twp. page #119 #473 dwelling Email from Wanda Sloan Karnes gives the following information: "James and Sarah were original (charter) members of the Strawberry Congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Old Lawrence County, Arkansas in 1825. From writings in the Southern Standard newspaper, it is said that James brought his family to Clark County about 1825, but we only know he was in Southern Arkansas by January 2819 when he married his second wife in Lafayette County. My opinion has alway been that he did not come in 1825. The Colin McKinney family came south in 1825, so maybe someone thought James came with them. By the 1830 census he is settle in what is now South Fork Township. The window of time for James arrival in Southern Arkansas is rather small, 18 months. Betty Black, the Mother of Sarah, died in June 1827. James signed, along with Sarah for her part of the estate. On those papers, they are still in Lawrence County. Sarah had a sister who was already living in Hempstead County by that time, and I always think that after their Mother died, Sarah wanted to be near her sister. Anyway, Sarah died November 10, 1827, five months her Mother died. Then by January 1829 James is married to Anna Carolyn McKinney. There is a tombstone in the Slaon Cemetery for James. The original Sloan house, located on Arkansas State Highway #53, 10 miles westof Gurdon, Arkansas, was located across the road from the cemetery. Mr. Robert Patterson told me the house was located above Sandy Branch, a stream that ran through the property I have no memory of that house, but the stream is still there, it runds along the side of the Cemetery, maybe only a trickle, but I know where it is. the old Sloan house I remember was a little distance from the first house, but still within sight of the cemetery. That house is where my Dad and his siblings were born. Many years later this house was torn down and a smaller house built, where by Grandmother lived out her life." |
