Chapter 13: When Things Go Wrong

Chapter 13 looks at the worst case scenario: if you’ve done all your homework and something major still goes wrong. The value of documentation is stressed, and the potential need for a structural engineer to back up your claims is discussed. There are three typical avenues of action when something goes wrong, with the third possibility depending on the wording of your sales agreement: (1) contacting the Manufactured Housing Board (or State Administrative Agency [SSA], if your state has one); (2) complaining to local or regional "Consumer Action Lines" or something similar; or (3) going to arbitration or court. Unfortunately, not all SSAs are created equal, consumer action lines may not take up your case, and legal recourse is severely limited in many contracts. The best solution is to make sure you don’t need these resources by following the earlier chapters carefully! If all else fails, here's the advice you need.
