Trivia #2

November 19, 2002

Question In 1993 a powerful bomb exploded in the center of Florence, Italy. It was one of the worst disasters in this city in decades! Your student representative was a couple of blocks away from where this occurred. What is the exact date and what was the world famous place damaged by this bomb? How many people were killed?
Prize Free lunch on Saturday, November 23rd
Clues With a little bit of research on the Internet you should be able to find the answer to this one in a couple of minutes.
Answer On May 27, 1993 a car bomb exploded in Florence, Italy killing 5 people and injuring 37 others. The blast heavily damaged the Uffizi gallery (where the "Birth of Venus" painting is located). The Uffizi is one of the oldest and greatest art museums in the world. This is usually a very quiet city and it was one of the worst disasters in the city in decades! This happened a couple of blocks from the hotel I was staying while I was going to school to study Italian. The blast shook me from my bed at one in the morning, I went down to the place a few minutes after it happened and grabbed some video with my camera. There was a lot of broken glass and injured people. Luckily, we had a field trip the next day and we went to sleep early. Otherwise, we would have probably been around that area since there was a club we used to go to nearby.
