Notes from the Board

On behalf of the artistic staff and the executive board, thank you to all the fine musicians and parents who have helped make the 2005-2006 season a successful one. As we enter our 2006-2007 season, a busy and exciting program lies ahead. As an organization, GMYS needs your continued support to ensure its viability and success in meeting the needs of our musicians as they learn life skills, including teamwork, responsibility, interpersonal and organizational capabilities and creative thinking. These skills and development areas are included among those that the US Department of Labor cites as an essential foundation for success in the workplace, whether a child chooses to become a musician, teacher, doctor, businessperson or politician. James Houghton, retired Chairman and CEO for Corning Incorporated summed it up by stating, “Our success as a nation will depend almost exclusively on the skills of our work force. A sound grounding in the arts can only enhance those skills."

Various committees will be organized at the beginning of September and sign-up sheets will be available. Will you please join us in this exciting mission?

Thank you.
