Our train crosses the Yangzte River coming into Nanjing

We were met at the station by my friend
who was a student last year at Nanjing University

"Past experiences, if not forgotten, are a guide for the future;
from the lessons of the past, create the future" is the somber
greeting to visitors to the Memorial to the Nanjing Massacre.

"Quiet and Reverent" reads a nearby sign

Later that evening, we had dinner at Nanjing University

Another train station, another good-bye
as we head out for Shanghai and Eric returns
to northern China.

This 3-hour trip was the first and only time we were without an interpreter during the trip. We suddenly realized on the train that we would have no idea when we arrived at Shanghai, and that was a little bit disconcerting. But a man next to us helped us to get off at the right station.
