MRS. WINDY "STARR"BARNES KNOPP of Wilmington, NC died Tuesday, April 18,2000 at her residence following a lengthy illness.Starr was born January 5,1957 in Wilson, NC, daughter of Mrs. Hilda Taylor Barnes of Lucama, NC and the late J.B. Barnes.Starr graduated from Lucama High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she received her BA in Education in 1979. At this time she began her teaching career with the state of North Carolina. She also taught at The Camp Lejeune Dependents Schools. She returned to UNC-W where she received her MA in Education and was currently employed by the New Hanover County School Systems as a teacher at Roland Grise Middle School.Starr was a member of Lucama Church of God and was co-owner of Tropical Tans of Wilmington. :In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Frederick Von Knopp (Fred) and her daughter Brooklyn Starr (Brooke) of the home and a sister, Gail Barnes Harris and husband Mickey of Winterville, NC.Starr will be remembered for her smile, her love of life and family, and for being the friend that was always there whenever she was needed. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, co-workers, and students.Funeral services will be conducted in Wilmington at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22,2000 at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel by Rev. Jerome Mozingo. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in Barnes Cemetery, Wheat Swamp Rd., Lucama.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel and other times at the residence.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brooke Knopp Educational Fund, c/o Linda Toth at First Citizens Bank, 1910 Eastwood Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403.

Sarah was the daughter of Andrew D. and Susan Wiggs Johnson and was a 2nd-grade student Knightsville Elementary School.
