House Hem’laQ
Hem - Klingon word for “be proud”
laQ - Klingon word for “fire, energize” (e.g.
thrusters)
Hem’laQ is an ancient Klingon house on the planet
Terra. Centuries ago, our ancestors
came to a remote island in a northern region of the planet where they conquered
the local savages. This region had
many similarities to Kronos, the home world.
Rocky and remote. Cold and
difficult. With spectacular hunting and
beauty. There is even a beast so
similar to Targ as to be undeterminable from the real thing when roasted! This land in Terran was called Scot-land.
The Savages who lived there were an honorable and
strong people. Many survived the
initial conquering and managed to gain the respect of the Klingons as they were
a warrior race who fought with abandon, much as the Klingons. These savages knew the land and taught the
Klingons much of the ways of Terra.
Some Klingons interbred with the savages. The Klingon line did not seem to be diluted
by this interbreeding, but instead became stronger, with odd color of hair
being the only residual trait - yellow, or sometimes red.
The Savages were very knowledgeable in the plants of
the area and used many of them for medicines, a practice that the Klingons were
not familiar with. They used the plants
to heal the weak, and when life could no longer be lived honorably, they used
the plants - one in particular - Hemlock - to help warriors die.
Our family in particular learned the ways of the
plants and brewing the fiery drink they called Wise-key. For the wise, it is the key to the inner
realms, for the foolish it is poison...
To this day, our house proudly retains and guards
the secret knowledge of plants and brewing of the fire-drink.
