Thanks to the VU Alumni Association for the pictures.  I didn't think much about taking pictures when I was there.  The pictures in my head are the best ones, anyway.
It was 1977 when I left.  Stan Sterbenz was still coming to the Great Hall of the union building on quiet afternoons when it was empty, to play the grand piano.  Stan owned and lived in an old rooming house a few blocks from campus.  He drove the oldest car I've ever seen that wasn't a restored antique. He had long, white hair, a long, white moustache and beard, and he could play almost anything.  He especially loved classical music, playing Debussy just for himself, for the love of it, and for me when I would slip in and listen.  That's one of about a million things I remember that won't be happening again, ever, but I'm really glad it did.  Stan Sterbenz died in 1989 at the age of 92.
