Frequently Asked Questions

About my site:

1.  Why do you have a web site?  For some of the same reasons other people do embroidery, get tatooed, write letters to the editor, redecorate their houses, work on their own cars, or take vacations.

2.  Run that by me again?  Doing a web site is a little bit creative, a little bit expressive, a little bit artistic, a little bit technical, a little bit challenging, a little bit exhibitionistic, a chance to learn and develop a skill, and a change of pace.

3.  Oh, now I get it.  So, what do you have to know to make a web page?  Well, you either have to know how to use an editor like Netscape Composer or Frontpage, for example, which is simple but not very interesting, or you have to write your own html (which is hypertext markup language, in case you're as new at this as I was when I started.)

4.  Is html hard to learn?  Not if you're smart and willing to be meticulous with detail, like me ;).  To get past the extreme basics, you have to read a lot of it.  Like any language, once the syntax starts looking familiar it's fairly easy to find errors, learn more tags, or branch out into more complex scripts.  I haven't really even scratched the surface here...

5.  Whatever.  Got any beer?  It's in the fridge--help yourself.

About my work:

1.  How can you deal with people's problems all the time and not get depressed?  It's a matter of boundaries. I know whose problems are whose. Other people's problems aren't happening to me.

2.  Then you don't really care about their problems, is that it?  No, that's not it.  Understanding that a problem isn't mine allows me to think more logically and objectively about how it can be solved, and to feel secure enough to be a port in the storm for somebody who's not feeling secure.

3.  O.K., you do care.  But, don't people feel bad about having to pay a therapist to care about them?  People pay for their therapist's time and knowledge.  The caring is free.

4.  What kind of consulting do you do?  Mostly behavioral health consultation with service providers for special needs populations.  I perform assessments, design treatment plans, analyze data, train staff, write reports, go to meetings, and drive a lot.

About me:

1.  Is it true that you once had thirteen cats?  Well, they were mostly outside cats...

2.  But there were thirteen of them, right?  Right.

3.  Where do you live?  Florida, USA.

4.  Are those your real grandchildren?  What, do they look fake or something?

5.  Um...erm... then you're really that old?  Really.

6.  Then you must remember...  Yeah... (reflective pause; broad smile).  I remember.
