The War hammer

The use of War Hammers dates from early classical and prehistoric times, through the Rennaisance when the war hammer reappeared as a pole - arm in the form of the poll-hammer and similar weapons. Norse and Germanic people used specialized hammers in combat both as melee and missile (throwing) weapons such as the famous mythological hammer of Thor. Hammers remained popular over the years because of their effectiveness against heavy armor. As time went on hammers aquired spike heads and points to be more versatile in attackin armor, especially plate armor. A hammer is not as swift as some weapons, but it packs a hell of a punch (literally in the case of plate armor and helemts!
