Nov 2nd 1862

Pa the cars stopped long enough at Brookhaven for me to get your letter got here yesterday evening. I found Frank Davis and Charly Gardner here waggons are leaving here with baggage for Fort Hudson. I don't think I will go until Frank and Charly goes. I cannot march and toat my baggage. I saw Q. T. Eskew at Jackson on his way home and read Joe's letter to Cy. I was sorry to hear Cope was sick. I wish I could see them but I don't suppose I will until the war is over, Pa I believe our regt will be busted up. Maj Johnston has got back from Enterprise he only got 45 men we cannot get recruits at home and where are they to come from, the 3rd Miss is busted up. I heard two of our regts were captured at the salt works a few days ago. I expect our regt will be sent over there. Cef__ and Joe has had a hard time of it in Ky if our regt is busted up I am going to try and go to them. I heard Capt. Alcorn say this morning he believed our state would be given up. his father is moving all his Negoes to Ala he is the man that was our Gen last year in Ky. Soldiers are continually going to Port Hudson from here. H. L. Miller went on last night with some waggons. There is nothing but pine here and the roads are awful dusty it is 35 miles to Clinton. I dread the trip. I could have got my bobtail coat and over shirt at Jackson but I can not toat anymore I kneed them but I dont reckon we will stay down here long. if it turns much cold we can get plenty of pine to make good fires. I wish I could keep as well as I did last year. I dont mind the work we have to do if I could keep well. I am nearly out of money again I have to pay half price on Clint every time we go on the car and since I've been sick, I had to buy everything I eat. I want about $25 by the first one coming to the regt. tell John Greer and E. W. Edwards they had better not come back until they get good well for they will not get to go home any more. I must close give my love to all.

C. W. Shipp
