The above 1st national pattern flag probably flew over Camp Moore for over 3 years. This particular flag was captured by Federal cavalry in a raid on Camp Moore on October 7th, 1864. The blue canton is quite peculiar in that it has fifteen stars. You may barely make out the dark blue stripe at the top and bottom of the canton. This is a separate blue bar that was sewn over the removed stars. This was obviously a canton from a United States flag that was fitted to serve the Confederacy. The flag was made of bunting with cotton stars. The blue material sewn over the stars in the canton is blue flannel. The flag now sits in a vault in the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, VA.
The above flag is a reproduction of the original Camp Moore Garrison Flag that was captured by the Yankees when the Camp was destroyed. Mrs. Linda Hall of Co. K, 7th Louisiana Infantry reenactors made the flag and donated it to the Camp Moore Museum. It flies from the flagpole on special occasions.
