Camp Moore Confederate Cemetery

Camp Moore 5.jpg (82135 bytes)

The cemetery was reclaimed from the elements in 1905.  The cemetery is estimated to contain between 200 and 800 men who died of disease while stationed at Camp Moore.  As of this writing, there are 150 unnamed headstones to the south of the monument, with another 90 named headstones installed to the north of the monument.  Currently, thermal imaging by Mr. Bob Melia of Metairie, LA is giving us a whole new picture on the actual alignment and number of graves.   Alignment ot the actual graves is in a southeast to northwest orientation.   The actual number has yet to be determined.  This work is ongoing and will be updated on this site as new information is obtained.
