Reenactment - Reenactors please check out our reenactment page and send in registration forms for the 2009 annual encampment and reenactment. Visitors will also find helpful information on this page. The reenactment will be held, as always, the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving, on November 21st & 22nd, 2009. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and under 6 are free. Gates open at 9 am for viewing of the campsites and the battles will be held at 2:00 pm each day.
Train Wreck Marker STOLEN - A group of concerned individuals helped raise money to install a historical marker south of Ponchatoula, LA this year. The effort took over 1.5 years. The marker was to honor the memory of those members of the 7th Mississippi Infantry that were killed there in a terrible train wreck in 1862. The money in the amount of $1800, was raised, the marker ordered and finally installed in February, 2009. On a recent trip to the area, one of the volunteers at Camp Moore noticed that the sign was missing. Calls to the La. Dept. of Transportation confirmed what we feared - the sign had been stolen. It had not been removed by the Dept. of Transportation. We were also informed that even though bought through and installed by the Dept. of Transportation, they held no liability in the matter and all that they could do would be to install a new sign if we bought another one. One must wonder what low-life piece of human filth would have need for such a sign or was it just wanton vandalism? We will likely never know. To put the sign up again would only invite the same response. I guess the people of Ponchatoula and those visitors that would have passed it in the years to come will never know what happened there on that February morning. We will keep this image of the sign here as long as we have a website so that the memory of those young men is preserved, even if it is not how we intended.
Brick Form Change - Please note that we have a new online brick order form that now allows a few more spaces per line and now allows 4 lines of script. This change takes place immediately. The font is 1/8 inch smaller, being 5/8 inch versus the previous 3/4 inch.
Confederate Burial Database Back Online! - After much frustration in getting this site back online, it has been accomplished by the Louisiana Division Sons of Confederate Veterans. This is a site where the names and burial sites of more than 16,000 sons of Louisiana in all States and sons of other Southern States that are buried in Louisiana are listed. If you ever visited the old site, it was a searchable database. The new format is just a massive listing in alphabetical order. Note that it takes some time to load, especially if you do not DSL or cable. The site is about 25 MB large so please stick with it. For fast access users, the wait is usually about 15-20 seconds. I am so very thankful to the SCV for allowing this on their site so that people searching for the burial sites of ancestors may have some better chance of finding them. Anyone with updated information should please send to: N. Wayne Cosby. The URL for the website is: www.lascv/burial.htm or via this link: Louisiana Confederate Burial Database . Check it out!
