History of my ancestors' Homesteads in Mississippi
Pascagoula,MS & Dauphin Island,MS & My kin Jax Co,MS 1880-1900
Heres a brief account of my family w/links to other genealogical info

My kin farmed, fished, timbered William Martin Smith a military man during the Mexican 1846-48 & Civil Wars 1861-65 as I'm sure other kin were during those years. The loss of life in the Civil War was est. 860,000. The W Denny Lumber Co & International Paper Co & Ingalls Shipyard is where my Smith/Lyons/Ladnier Family Lines worked in 19th century Jax Co,MS.

The Osborne Lane Family of Marion District, SC lived in an area called Buckswamp a 97,000 acre swamp/blackwater system which runs from Uwharrie National Forest,NC @ Badin & High Rock Lakes down the Great PeeDee River by Cheraw & Dillion,SC down to Georgetown, SC then to the Atlantic Ocean. A few of the Osborne Lane Family members of Marion District, SC migrated to Simpson Co.,MS early 1820 & married into the James Johnson Family which led to the marriage into the Samuel Lyons Family then to my William Marion Smith Family in Mobile,AL/Pascagoula,MS. The Busby Family married into the Osborne Lane Family in Clarke Co,MS and started another family branch in MS

Tisdale Whatleys Family is another main line I'm looking for with many kin living in the Scott/Carroll/Greene/Jax Co.,MS & Mobile Co,AL areas. The Whatley Family ties into our Lyons/Smith Families. The Lyons/Graham/Faggard Families from Simpson & Jax Co,Ms have been in these areas since early 1800 and perhaps earlier. The Lyons/Graham/Faggard Families search is ongoing with many family members finding the site and offering us their family info to fill in the blanks. The Lyons/Graham/Faggard Families have been tracked to areas in Al called GrandBay,FortsLake & Tombigbee c. 1870's where ourJohn & Reuben Lyons (my ggrandfather & great uncle) were living and working w/timber & buying/selling land. The Goff/Cumbest/Graham/Cunningham Family is one of our extended families that has been researched very extensively by Melba Goff Allen.

My mothers' side of the family the Ladnier/Johnson/Nelson/Fulford Families from Harrison, Pearl River, Hancock, Jackson Co-Pascagoula,Ms & Baldwin, Mobile & Gulfshores,Al areas are numerous and going slow but steady. Capt John Nelson which our Nelson family stems from migrated from Carteret Co,NC. This cemetery in Baldwin Co,AL called Shell Banks Cemetery has alot of the Nelson/Strong Family members graves listed. This is another great site for the John Nelson Family of Baldwin Co.,AL.

The Ladnier Family has several famous family members. The world famous Brett Favre a Gulfport, Ms native and Quarterback of the 3 time N.F.L Super Bowl Champions the "Greenbay Packers". Hollywoods Diane Ladd, Laura Dern (Jurassic Park Movie) & Bruce Dern, Tennessee Williams and New Orleans very own Peter Fountain and the first Ladnier to make the rank of General in our Armed Forces Brig. Gen Ron Ladnier . If you're ever in Packer Country, Visit Brett Favre Steakhouse for a great meal and family atmosphere. Another distinguished family from the Ladnier Family Line is Rep Thomas Hale Boggs of Louisiana his wife Rep. Lindy Boggs and daughter Cokie Boggs Roberts. The Ladnier/Lyons/Mallette/Tillman/Clark/Smith Families of Pascagoula,Ms & Bayou La Batre,AL have lived in these areas since the 1700's and have 1000's of extended family members which we hope this site will unite together. The Ladnier Family Crest is very striking and a very important symbol in the Ladner/Ladnier familytree since it represents our line back to SEEWIS,SWITZERLAND. Randall Ladnier of Sarasota,Fl is conducting an extensive search in Switzerland for the Ladner/Ladnier line.

The William Marion Smith family still currently living in the Pascagoula,Ms area leads us back to the Brooklyn,NY area where William Marion Smith resided in the early 1800's, unfortunatley, there has been no information found on his family in this NY area, however, the Long Island area may produce some clues since many Smith clan reside in this area during that period. The William Marion Smith Family is well documented on this site in the Mobile, Al/Pascagoula, Ms area beginning c.1830. William Martin Smith a Mexican & Civil War Veteran s/o William Marion Smith raised his family in the Jax Co,Ms area with many of the family still living in this area. William Martin Smith married Martha Ann Moore in 1866 after the Civil War. Martha's Ann Moore's parents are Valentine Moore & Louisa Ward which I feel I have found in Orange Co,NC in the time period of 1839 according to the counties marriage bonds and their bonds witness being a Shadrick Ward possibly Louisa Ward Moores father/uncle/brother. The Moore/Ward/Compton Families are very numerous in this area currently known as Orange Co, NC In the latter 1700's & early 1800's the Moore Family has been very involved in land transactions around the time of the revolutionary war with many documents naming a William,John,James and Valentine Moore as sellers or buyers of land in this area
