- 1. Your
boat-building friends probably already know this, but what are the black and
red colors on the bottom for???
I know it seems a shame to paint it, but that's the
original boat's colors. And it is the waterline as well.
- Will your model sail or motor under its radio control? If sail -
just rudder commands, or sail movement?
It will be wind powered by sail. It will have rudder and sail controls
via radio control. It also has a small motor just in case, just like the
real ship. I am going to also make a smoke cannon or two.
- Are you going to have it done by
Spring? (2003)
Don't know, but at the current rate, i just might.
- In regards to the bath tub test: Presumably,
the boat passed the test???? You said you had the ruler in the front, was it
floating too high? too low? or JUST RIGHT!? As
far as that test, it sat real high in the water, which is good because, i
can add weight later if need. I will do another bath tub test later.
- You know eventually you will have to plank it :) If you
ever need help along those lines just give me a ring. Help, help.
Oh i got that done already. It was a big scary challenge, but i believe i
whipped it.
- Where did you get the plans? Is it a kit? No it's
not a kit. It is scratch built. I didn't get plans. I downloaded some
pictures from LadyWashington.org. You can see the
pictures and some plans that i used here as well. I haven't
planned on making this project a kit, but i have most all templates that I
used to make her. Who knows, if this ship works out, i may make another one
and fix the templates. I made templates on my computer and some by
hand and most items were modified after the initial cutting out. And i
didn't modify the templates. Just concentrated on building the ship not constantly
drawing. But if i could do it ,so can you with the limited plans we have. Plans
and drawings page.
- Hey Chris: the ship is
looking good. when is the maiden voyage?
I plan on having it finished mid-May 2003. Mid May would make this a 9
month project. (Just like making a baby.) I want to take the ship and show
it off at Chattanooga ,TN regatta. Also, I have been invited to
bring my ship to display next to the real Lady Washington on July 4th in Washington
State.
Comments from some emails i received:
