Charles was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on September 30, 1960. Charles is the son of Major Charles E. Moss and the late Linda Courtney. After following his father to a variety of U.S. Air Force bases, Charles returned to live with his grandparents Varney Eual Moss and Opal Mae Moss on a farm in Western Oklahoma. He graduated from Sayre High School in 1978. After high school, he attended Oklahoma State University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1982 and a Masters of Science in 1984. Charles then enrolled in the Ph.D. program at Purdue University in August of 1984, graduating in December of 1987. After graduation, Charles joined the faculty of the University of Florida in the Food and Resource Economics Department. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1998. During his time at Purdue, Charles married Susan Diane Steritz of Lynchburg, Ohio. They have four children, Alexander, Jennifer, Christopher, and Anna all born in Gainesville, Florida. Charles and his family attend Abiding Savior Lutheran Church which is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. |
