BENNETT
My Paternal grandmother was a Bennett-Lillie Pearl Bennett
(1882-1950) daughter of James Madison Bennett (1852-1905) and
Margaret Elizabeth McCubbin of Hart Co. KY.
James Madison Bennett's parents were John Bennett (1823-1915)
and Martha Jane Perkins. John lived and is buried in Hart Co.KY
near the village of Eve and near the point where Lynn CampCreek
empties into Green River. He was the father of twenty five(25)
children by three wives.
John Bennett's parents were William M. Bennett (1775c 1832c.)
and Sarah McCubbin. William and Sarah were married in Hardin Co
KY 22 May 1811. Family tradition has it that William drowned
crossingGreen River. About 1842 Sarah the widow and her children
except John moved to Caldwell County MO. The story of the move is
documented in "History of Caldwell Co., MO" .
The ancestors of William M. Bennett are unproven. The MO
Bennetts have it that William is a son of Fisher Rice Bennett and
JudithHansen. There is a Fisher Rice Bennett in the records of
AlbemarleCo VA buying land and witnessing deeds in the period
1766-1776.Also a 1790 census index (actually a 1782 tax list)
showing a F. R. Bennett with 7 white souls.
