I started in the Uilleann world about four years ago with Wilbert Garvin's original book "The Uilleann Pipes, Their Construction and Maintenance". I spent almost a year making a half-set based on his plans and that's what I have today except for the drones which were second-hand. Being a totally isolated piper, I recognized the need to be able to reed these pipes, so I set out to learn how to make and voice reeds properly. This effort took almost another year. I now have a relatively well-behaved half-set and I am capable of playing a few airs here and there, but I don't consider myself a piper at all. I certainly need a teacher!

I'm from Southwest Louisiana (Cajun Country) ;-) but I'm often in the Vero Beach/Sebastian area at different points throughout the year.

I've been working with the uilleann pipes for about 2 years now.  I play a set made by Mr. Bruce Childress.  I certainly wouldn't consider myself to be proficient at the instrument, but I don't suppose I sound awful for someone who's only been studying them for a couple of years.  I began playing the war pipes at the age of 8, and that has granted me a learning curve on the uilleanns to some extent. I don't feel that I have been working long enough to be authorized to teach, but if there is in fact, someone who I actually might be able to help out in some fashion, I am always more than happy to do so:-)

I'm a beginner on the uilleann pipes, and have been taking lessons from John Maio for a couple of months. I should mention that I found John through this resource. I played mouth blown Scottish small pipes for about a year prior to switching to the UP, and mucked about with whistles and flutes for a couple of years before that. I own a somewhat unusual blackwood and aluminium half set made by Pat McNulty and Peter Hunter in 1976. I've set the drones aside for now and am using this set as a practice set.

Andreas Rogge full set in "D". It's lovely! I also own a Keith Powell practice set. Started piping in 1998, but I am very much a beginner. I'm at the stage of listening and learning tunes by ear and it is definitely getting easier.

I'm self taught and I started with a Lark in the Morning practice set in 1999. In 2000 I had a Roberts practice set made and I love it. I am a elementary music teacher and music director at a local Methodist church. The first weekend in December each year our church performs a Celtic cantata. I play the pipes at church and in our group Waterstone which plays at local churches and festivals. I also play fiddle, banjo and guitar in a bluegrass group. I would enjoy playing in a session. Though I don't have many tunes memorized I can sight read well

I also play GHB in the "City of Melbourne Pipes and Drums" and smallpipes, fiddle, concertina and octave mandolin in our local Celtic Band "Kindred Spirits".

I've just become a piper since the Florida Tional on 2-9-03. I met a guy named Mike Hay from Atlanta there. He sold me his practice set (God bless him, I know it was a bit painful) which is made by Tim Britton. No drones or regulators had he, and the waiting list for Tim is 3 yrs. I play the fiddle, harmonica, and a bit of whistle, though none are up to session speed. I also do a bit of lilting. I've conquered the low D thru back D scale on the pipes. Now I'm after the higher notes, which are proving a challenge. So you see, I'm not yet skilled enough to teach.

Uilleann piping off and on for about a year, Highland pipes 15+ years, Classical Flute 25+ years. Degreed in instrumental music education. I play a Martin Preshaw practice set (http://www.wiredup.net/unionpipes/index.htm)- When I got it, I was able to play it immediately no serious reed problems etc. Martin set it up so that it would play out of the box. I am very capable of teaching music and the bagpipes. I am however still a beginning Uilleann piper. I have already performed a few time for large audiences but my fingers are not yet seasoned (experienced) in the Irish music - this is strictly a matter of years of experience for any piper.

Been playing for 6 years or so, Nick Whitmer and Paddy Keenan got me started, and since have been doing Tionols and music festivals every year. I play a few different sets, two from Childress, have chanters from Lynch, Britton, Burke, and Kohler. Also play a bit of flute, GHB, and play and teach bodhran as I learned from Paddy League when I lived in Virginia. Play and regularly host sessions here in town, and seek others anywhere else I go. I am happy to help or teach anyone in the area just getting started. Kieran O'Hare and Liam O'Flynn are probably my biggest influences thus far as well as the masters... and I do not look like Larre, may not be better looking, but am better at driving than he.

History with the pipes (how long have you played, what kind of set do you have, who made your pipes, etc.) Since 1999 I have owned a compact half set in D (4 drone) by Charlie Roberts but have not seriously began to play them, so would definitely fit the novice catagory. I have played the tin whistle for many years and also play GHBs and a bit of flute.

Not available to teach UPs but regularly teach GHB and have given many a whistle and bodrahn player a start.

I have been playing Irish music for 30 years and started out on the penny whistle. I started playing a Uilleann pipes practice set by Patrick Murray in June, 2003. I had my first experience playing the pipes with Kieran O'Hare at the 2003 Swannanoa Gathering in Asheville NC. I will be a self taught player and could use some lessons if there are any teachers in Florida. I also play bodhran, guitar and mandolin in our local Celtic Band "Kindred Spirits".

I started with a Charles Roberts practice set in 'D' in Dec. '99, I have also a David Daye penny chanter, but in the past 6 months have had to put my pipes aside while recovering from a foot injury. I had a few lessons with Eamonn Dillon in Ft. Lauderdale to get started, (a very good teacher) and attended a few small workshops in Ireland last summer. I hope to attend the North East tionol in October and get back on the track. I would be willing to travel to central Florida for a pipers get together.

I have been a professional musician for over 25 years playing fiddle, whistles, guitar, bass, bodhran, vox and a plethora of other instruments including the GHBs for roughly 21 years, Uilleann Pipes for nearly 2 years. I currently play a David Boisvert (of GREENWOOD PIPES) concert pitched chanter (of cocobolo wood) with drones (blackwood) by Mr. Pat Kistani... although, I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of matching drones and regs from David relatively soon (I estimate Sept. of 2005). I have reached a level of playing where I honestly feel I can be of good service and assistance to the novice or beginning player, and would only be more than happy to help out, give tips or lessons to same. Feel free to contact me anytime.... but be forewarned, I will charge you the fee of one (or perhaps more) truly 'bad' joke for my efforts... the more tasteless, the better. If I have to travel, then you will be charged a joke, and a bottomless cup of LYON'S ORIGINAL LABEL tea... (with loads of cream and sweetener). All the best!!!  ;-{D."

I started uilleann pipes in May, 1999. I bought a Seth Gallagher half set and they're still in excellent condition. Kudos to Seth for great workmanship! I'm self taught and I get stuck here and there, but I'm still hacking away. I am using a combination of Davy Spillane's Mel Bay book, the NPU videos, Heather Clarke's tutor, and "A Master's Touch" [Seamus Ennis]. In addition, I listen to pipers and pay as close attention as I can. I hope to make a Christmas CD someday to pass on the the great-great-grandkids.

I got a practice chanter from David Daye, and a Lynch bag & bellows (via John Maze) in the fall of last year- haven't done much with them yet, but after taking the Tional classes this year (2003), I feel many of my problems have been corrected, and I hope to start making progress. I have played Irish music on flute for about 8 years, and have a classical background (saxophone, nit flute) that I try not to let interfere with my Irish music.
