SCOUT COMMITTEE MEETING
September 15, 2005 Log Cabin Sunday School


Chairman Steve Pattillo called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.

Minutes of the August 25, 2005, were reviewed and Greg Hogan made a motion to accept the minutes as published, motion seconded and accepted.

GENERAL INFORMATION;

Newspaper recycling is going well, this requires no effort on the troops part and additional newspaper collections will increase our income. Please no plastic bags.
A flyer to advertise the newspaper recycling has been developed, duplicated and is available for distribution in the general neighborhood.

Web site is up and running, check out www.bsatroop1.net . All types of information is available for the troop at this site and it will be kept more current than a monthly newsletter/meeting minutes can be. Items such as calendar of events for the troop and also the Covered Bridge District with merit badge clinics, etc;.
PARENTS NOTE: This site is your best way to keep abreast of the schedule and needs of your scout.

The Scout Troop Committee is made up of representatives of the Troop Chartering organization, and Troop leaders for the overall guidance of the scouting program.
Input is desired from the senior scouts, their parents, and other interested people, and they are welcome at the meetings. The Committee normally meets on the third Thursday of the month at the Log Cabin Sunday School at 7:00 PM.

OLD BUSINESS;

Denise Settle reported on the upcoming popcorn sale, show/sell popcorn will be picked up on 9/17, this is primarily the small tins and will be sold door to door with orders taken for the larger tins and packages.

Charles Switzer reported on the Scout Hut repairs; the first priority is to get a plan in place for heat before winter. Other needs are repairs to the gutters on the front of the building and securing a paint contractor that we can work with. Work will also continue on the placement of additional dirt and gravel for parking in front of the building.
A lot of other clean up work and finish touches will have to be finished as funds come available.

It was decided to have a general clean up work day on Saturday October 8th, 9 AM to clean up the general area. Charles will try to get a roll off dumpster box for debris.

The cook-out to celebrate the return of the scouts to the repaired hut was discussed, The date for this has been set for October 22 at noon. This cook out celebration will include the scouts, their families, the cubs, their families, the church members, and neighbors. We will also invite the contributors to our repair fund.

The proposed car wash for a fundraiser will be rescheduled for the Spring of 2006.

NEW BUSINESS;

Denise Settle reported that the Troop checking account balance is $2246.86 plus a check from the newspaper recycling.
A motion was made for the troop to pay the registration fees for adults on scouting activities. Motion seconded and passed.

Adventure camping trip is scheduled for September 30-October 2, 8 boys and 3 adults have signed up.

Charles Switzer reported that we have received a concept drawing of a possible landscape plan for the property that emphasized elements of scouting. This will have to be deferred into the future.

Martin Hogan reported the scouts needed assistance on identifying information on various merit badges.
Martin also expressed interest in the scouts participating in a model rocket launch. Mike Nagle recommended that Martin contact Kevin Gogarty or Brendan Nagle for assistance in that they have participated in such an event.

Advancement;
Greg Settle reported that ;

Matthew Hamilton achieved Tenderfoot and is close to completing the Second Class requirements.

Andrew Webb is ready for a Board of Review for 2nd Class Scout.

Andrew Minor has submitted his Eagle Scout packet for his Eagle project, the next step is Troop and Atlanta Area Council review and then if complete, the Council will schedule a Board of Review.

Mike Nagle reported that four scouts have only a observation visit to a restaurant kitchen to complete the cooking merit badge requirements for these boys. This will be scheduled soon at a TGIF restaurant on a Sunday morning.

Mike also reported that the opportunity to get the Aviation Merit Badge is scheduled for this Saturday at the Lockheed-Martin facility in Marietta.

The Merit Badge University is scheduled for October 15 at Kennesaw State University, this is an excellent opportunity to secure merit badges.
