In order to install my mounts onto the side of the vehicle, I have designed some backing plates to do the job.  4 inchs in diameter with a 4 bolt pattern that is sure to hold.  The plates are 3/8 inch thick with the back plate tapped to fit so no nuts are needed.   The bolts pulling the plates together are stainless steel with stainless lock washers.   The 1/8 inch thick rubber washer supplied is to protect the paint and to help the plate pull up completely against the metal.  If not worried about the paint, then the rubber washer is not really needed for the function of the plates. The bolt and antenna mount are still insulated from the car without it.  The heavy gage plates should flatten any small curve in the metal and it will probably make a little bit better ground and a much tighter grip on the sheet metal.

Backing plates only:  $  40.00   Comes with  the 1/2-20 bolt with 3/16 inch screw for cable attachment and insulators and rubber washer.  The insulator around the bolt is long enough to reach thru both plates so that the bolt is protected from grounding out where it passes thru the sheet metal. The top insulator also extends down around the bolt to keep it centered. The insulator and stainless steel washer is 2 inch OD.   SEE HERE   The plates can be used by themselves with your own mount as long as the antenna is lightweight and the center bolt is good and tight. You can also use the co-axial cable connector that I make to hold the mount.

See below for the solution to putting anything you want on the side of your vehicle.

Also if you would like to see one on a car, here is a picture from a customer on THIS PAGE.

For the heavy antennas' the ball mount is pinned to the plate

Available only as sets, because the ball mount is custom fitted.

1.  Plates, QD ball  and co-axial cable connector)  Price:  $ 134.00

2.  Plate, Flat Top Ball, cable connector)                Price:   $ 120.00

3.  Plate, QD ball using regular bolt)                      Price:   $ 110.00

4.  Plate, Flat Top Ball using regular bolt)              Price:   $  95.00

The ball mount is pinned to the plate to keep it from rotating on the anchor bolt.  Double pins for lots of strength as well as the pins are of a special kind of material with a high shear strength. The pins are non-conductive.   This set-up should hold just about anything.

It is just important to remember to set everything in place before drilling the outside bolt holes to insure that you come out in the vertical position. And the instructions to install this set-up along with a note of the additional items included can be found    HERE

And if you use these plates to go on top of the vehicle with a pedestal or quick disconnect mount or something of your choice,  then the thick rubber washer makes a great seal against water.

The plates can be used by themselves with your own mount as long as the antenna is lightweight and the center bolt is good and tight.  My co-axial cable connector will also hold the antenna tight enough as well. Just as strong as the bolt.
