Centaur Recording Artists The Mississippi Guitar Quartet, founded by Giovanni DeChiaro, Professor of Guitar at the University of Southern Mississippi, is the first and only performing ensemble of its kind in Mississippi.  The quartet is comprised of guitarists Michael Boyd, Professor of Guitar at Jones Junior College, Chas Evans, Professor of Guitar at Holmes Community College and Mississippi College, and Steve Kennedy, USM Graduate Teaching Fellow.

The Mississippi Guitar Quartet presents a wide variety of musical styles to include classical masterpieces of Pachelbel, Bach, Mozart, Strauss and Bizet, ragtime favorites of Scott Joplin, popular Broadway classics such as West Side Story, and well-known religious selections.  Many of the selections performed are arranged by the members of the quartet.

Mr. DeChiaro’s engagements have taken him throughout the United States, Europe and South America, including performances for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in Rome and President Bill Clinton at a special Christmas function at the White House.  As a solo performer, Mr. Boyd has performed throughout the Southeastern United States, and as far as Argentina and Spain.  Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Evans perform as soloists regularly, and each have garnered top honors in several state and regional festivals and competitions.  The Mississippi Guitar Quartet, now in its sixth season, has performed extensively throughout the region, and are members of the Mississippi Arts Commission Touring Artist and Education Developer roster.  The Quartet is available for master classes and workshops as well as concert performances.
