ever' sunset
We were on the road north, just out of Mobile,
my old truck was smoking like a stack,
we got a bite at noon, and Betty took the wheel,
and she poured on the gas, all the way back.
We'd been working on an offshore rig,
just tryin' to make a little cash,
I was just startin' to be handy, nothin' big,
but, Betty worked hard slinging hash.
Ever'day, pumping oil, off the ocean floor,
nights, I'd watch the sun set in her eyes,
we wore our fingers, to the very core,
jus' trying to get our hands, on Betty's prize.
she wanted us to buy a cabin, down by the river,
and I just wanted, to see her smile,
ever' time I think about her, I get a shiver,
and driving that old truck, it was every mile.
now Betty's gone, I'm back out in the ocean.
and I watch the clouds, pile-up in the skies,
and you know, its a crazy notion,
but in ever' sunset, I see her eyes.
