Rhymes Riddles Retrospect and Requiems - With Just an Iota of Reason - by: Charlotte (Perdue) Perry

Lovers come a dime a dozen,
shallow clones of flesh and marrow.
Momentary pleasures, passionless and fey.
Taking what you have to give them,
never dreaming how you've used them,
they drift into oblivion,
going, going, gone!
Fair weather friends close rank behind them,
animated little toy soldiers,
parasites with smiling faces passing in revue.
Resenting every crumb you've thrown them,
wishing you had never known them.
It's time to end the masquerade,
time for moving on.
Life is a flaming two edged sword,
it will run you through and burn you down,
lo! the Phoenix rises from the ashes, stronger still!!
Forsaking all the ties that bind me,
for a brave new world that fairly blinds me,
Destined for eternity!
Going, going, gone!
