Located in Black Mountain just outside of Asheville, NC, I've been fortunate to combine my love for the western North Carolina Mountains with my work. Specializing in location photography, I have over 20 years experience as a professional photographer and take pride in my versatility photographing a wide variety of subjects including portraits, business and education, health and medicine, architecture, adventure/sports, scenics, the arts, and my own personal visions.
My career began as a photojournalist and photo editor. Capturing the "decisive moment" was the goal then, and I continue to rely on that skill today in my commercial work. It is my belief that recording an expression or catching a moment, beyond the necessary and critical technical requirements of the shoot, is what produces a great photograph.
My work has won over 40 professional awards and has been published in Time, US, Runner's World, Trail Runner, Links Letter, Luxury Golf & Travel, Dow Jones Investment Advisor, The Pfizer Journal, Civil War Times Illustrated, Out Here, NC Today, Our State, Zen, numerous foreign magazines including Men's Health (Germany), and The Best of Photojournalism: 1995 book.
A growing list of regional clients includes: Blue Ridge College, Haywood College, Montreat College, SouthWestern College, WarrenWilson College, UNC at Asheville, AB Tech, The Asheville School, Carolina Day School, NC Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Montreat Conference Center, The Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove, Cancer Centers of NC, Biltmore Winery, The City of Asheville, Mission-St. Joseph's Hospital, Ocu-Med, The Asheville Board of Realtors, The Asheville Chamber of Commerce, H & M Constructors, Buncombe County Partnership for Children, Asheville Community Theater, Glazer Architecture, ACM Design & Architecture, Phoenix Design, Community Care Partners, Daniels Graphics, Leaf Fest, Southern Highland Craft Guild, Arts Alliance, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, NC Arboretum...
Although most of my regular clients are in the Asheville area, I am available for work outside of this area (see distance to major cities).
I have a 15
year-old daughter, Kuniko, who shares my love of art, music, and movies. When
not taking pictures for clients or personal projects, I’m often found rock
climbing in various locations throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains.
