The Birmingham Racing Commission was organized in 1984 pursuant to the John Rogers Act, now codified as Chapter 65 of Title 11, Code of Alabama 1975.


The Commission is a unique public corporation authorized to license and regulate thoroughbred and greyhound racing pari-mutuel wagering in Birmingham.


There are five members of the Commission. The Mayor of the City of Birmingham and the President of the Jefferson County Commission serve as members ex officio. One member is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, two by the Jefferson County Legislative Delegation - one by the House Delegation and one by the Senate Delegation.
 

The present members of the Commission are as follows:


Michael G. Kendrick, Chairman

Charles Crockrom, Sr., Vice-Chairman

Mayor Bernard Kincaid

Gary White, Commissioner

Dr. Thomas Dawkins, DVM, Commissioner
