Distribution Summary of N. American
Odonata on the IORI internet give a quick view of distribution of
all N.Am. Odonates. However, well within the limits of some
species, there are states not recorded in the above or in any of the older
standard refernces. I have prepared a
list of such species giving the states within the recorded (published or internet) range of each
wherein I found no record of that species' presence. This list is presented here.
Any particular missing record means only that the species has not been
recorded from that state by any source known to me. Emphatically, it does not mean that the species is not present in
that state. Indeed, true absences can
never be proven. Perhaps, some missing
recors are only things that I have missed, e.g. Celithemis fasciata in PA. A quick peep at the list shows a need for
comprehensive modern lists for DE, RI.
It must be understood that each record is within the documented range
limits of the species and that nothing is included relative to range extensions
or vagrants. I hope that the following
list will be of general interest, will stimulate search for the species in the
indicated state from the published literature, the internet and most important by diligent collectiing.
