We invite you to participate in the Calvert (and variants) Surname Y-DNA Study. We hope that Y-DNA testing for the Calvert surname, as well as its variants, will help to establish links between the numerous connected and unconnected Calvert lineages. Males with the surname Calvert, or one of its variants, are all cordially invited to become test participants. Women and descendants who do not have the Calvert surname can encourage a male relative whose surname is Calvert to provide the Y-DNA sample.
Current participants' pedigrees can be viewed on our website (coming soon!). Test participants, and anyone else interested in the Calvert Surname Y-DNA Study, may join our project's mailing list. Contact a co-administrator for details.

Please contact a co-administrator if you can provide funding for a DNA test, looking for a participant in a particular line, or can provide a DNA sample only.
Since a Surname Project in
essence traces members of a family that share a common surname, and females (a)
don't carry their father's Y-DNA, and (b) acquire a new surname by the way of
marriage, in order to be relevant to the Surname Project, the tested individual
must be a male that wants to check his paternal line (father's father's
father's...). The test to be ordered is either the Y-DNA12, Y-DNA25 or Y-DNA37,
and females should look for a brother or cousin with that surname to be tested.
Test participants who participate in this group study are eligible for a discounted testing rate. Group testing rates for Y-chromosome testing at FTDNA are:
12 marker Y-DNA test: $99 + postage
25 Marker Upgrade: $90
25 marker Y-DNA test: $169 + postage
37-marker Y-DNA test: $229 + postage
We highly recommend doing the Y-DNA 25-markers test, since it allows distinguishing the branches of the major families.
The testing company will be FamilyTreeDNA. Their website is www.familytreedna.com.
Test kits are ordered directly from FamilyTreeDNA. You can send an email to a co-coordinator asking how to order a test kit. Or, you can go to http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=C88305&special=True. An option is available for instances where the test participant and the person who is paying for the test are different. Payment can be made by credit card or invoice.
When a test kit is ordered, the form on the first page with
the blanks is for the test participant. The form on the 2nd page will be
information on who pays for the test. The test company may have filled in
some lines on the 2nd page, assuming that the same person is being tested as
well as paying. Since this is not the case for you, you will need to
overwrite your payment information on the invoice page. You have the
option of credit card or by having them mail you an invoice.
