Chores

Dylan is a big help around the house. If I pull Avery's diapers out of the washer, he'll get them all into the drier for me. With a baby in arms, that's a big help! NBA, here comes Dylan!

Dylanisms of the week:

1. I'm driving home from Gresham with Dylan and Avery.
Dylan: Momma, Why is the sky so blue?
Erin: [Short, but decidedly age inappropriate explanation of light absorption, refraction, and particulate matter]
Dylan: I thought it was because it’s almost night time.

2.
Dylan: Why do I have so much to say?
Erin: I think because you are learning alot about the world around you.
Dylan: I think it’s because I've found my voice.

3. Dylan and Greg trying to fall asleep long after lights out.
Dylan: Daddy?
Greg: Yes, Dylan?
Dylan: Just remember that we are friends.

Making Snowball Memories

The snow has mostly melted and life is back to our approximation of normal. Today was wonderfully warm and we had a great time playing in the back yard and rediscovering long-ago favorites like the sandbox, teeball, and tricycle. It was Avery's first day of sitting (she wasn't sitting last summer) on a blanket in the yard. She loved it and even let me accomplish an hour of yard work. Dylan is so entertaining...who wouldn't want to lounge in the grass and watch him?

For the record, Greg made the snowball in the picture. He rolled it until he could roll it no longer. I think it is currently the only remaining snowball in the neighborhood. Greg and I have bets out on its melting day. Any thoughts?

Snow Day

After 2 or 3 highly-hyped false calls on snow events, we finally got a snowy wham-O out of the blue. Yeah for snow days!

As you know, Dylan doesn't do anything until he's really good at it. Two weeks ago, he started asking "Why?" and he takes it very seriously. The other night I was lying down with Avery in one room while Greg put Dylan to sleep in the other. I was enjoying their conversation. This is such a Dylan Dylanism.

Dylan: Why....Why....Why....Why...Why....Why...Why??????
Greg: Why do you ask Why so much?
Dylan: Because you give me answers. Then I listen. And then I ask Why again!!!!

Nap Time

Nap time at our house is fun, and Dylan takes his big brother roll seriously. Today we sang nursery rhymes and Avery cooed along happily. When Greg isn't around to help with nap time, the kids usually fall asleep in a "Momma Sandwich". With Dylan on one side and Avery on the other, I feel like the luckiest lady alive. In the picture, they are discussing the choice of stories and the ownership of pillows.

Train tables and teetering tykes

Yesterday we sent Greg off to the kiddies again and we are busy making the best of Daddy-free days. Today we reconnected with Dylan's best bud Ethan, who was also blessed by Santa with an impressive Train table. His Mom Sara and I decided that train tables should have come into our lives a long time ago, as it enables the boys to officially play by themselves...at least together. Dylan thinks even trains are better with Mom or Dad. The biggest problem with Ethan's train set up is that it has to be dismantled every night at 6:30pm sharp. Else, bedtime is a fright.

Avery's had the biggest change in perspective since the holidays. She's now sitting steadily for long periods of time. She loves it because she can occupy herself unassisted with a pile of toys..and even wiggle and stretch to find those she shouldn't have (today she found Ethan's peanut butter toast). Dylan loves it because it gives him more unencumbered Momma time. And Momma loves it because everyone is happier. But it does mean that those days of my little in-arms-bundle are numbered.
