Homebrew Windom

Whether you call it a Windom or an off center fed dipole, I am very happy with this antenna. Signal strengths and more importantly signal to noise ratios compared to dipoles I have had are very close if not better in some cases. This is based on my experiences and observations only. Best of all I can work practically all bands (10-80)with my FT-847 and LDG Z100 Tuner. The tuner likes the antenna real well and tunes everywhere I have tried so far.

4. Mount to your support. Mine is near the top of my 30' tower. I drilled another hole about center of the PVC insulator, tied a piece of wire through it to attach to the tower. This wire is just for support. To support the coil I used a fiberglass measuring stick (about 3 feet long) that my wife got somewhere hihi. I simply attached it to the tower with some #12 solid copper wire and slipped the ice cream bucket over the stick (after cutting the bottom out of the ice cream bucket) securing the coax with some cable ties. The 2 wires going in the other direction is my 40 mtr dipole.

5. Secure the ends. I used 2 more pieces of pvc for insulators and some spare wire to secure the ends. I have a flag pole in the front yard that secures the 45' length and a chain link fence in the backyard that secures the 90' piece. I might raise the 90' lenght sometime, mainly to be able to mow underneath ! This antenna is not a tower, rotator, and beam but for what it is, I have been very pleased with it or I would not have taken the time to write this page. 73 de AF4O
