Licensed as Novice January 1978 as WD4OZN at age 17. Novice test
administered by my elmer K4ZJ Fred Dukes - now a SK, someone else has
his callsign now :<(
Proceeded to Advanced class over the
next couple of years including Technician, 13wpm, General, &
Advanced. Tests at this time given quarterly & sometimes only
semiannually by the FCC and only in major cities. No Volunteer Examiner
(VE) system in place at this time.
Passed 20wpm & Extra in 1987 under the VE system. Applied for the Vanity call AF4O in 2002.
Ham Radio
Worked All States CW (All States confirmed on HF CW (Morse Code)
VUCC on 2 Meters (100 latitude/longitude grids confirmed on 144mhz).
Lack about 13 countries for DXCC (87 countries confirmed on HF, mixture of modes)
VE examiner during the mid-late 80's. (FCC volunteer examiner for Amateur Radio Service)
