TS-830S VOX Delay Increase Mod
Everyone has a style with which they use their radio. I prefer simply keying a hand mic for voice. Therefore I do not use VOX on voice.
But on CW my code speed is rather slow especially favoring a straight key and the VOX delay was just not enough for me. Using the 830s, I got tired of the clacking of the relays between my keying.
My solution below is to increase the VOX adjustment from about 0-1 seconds to 1-2 seconds roughly. A better solution for both voice and cw would be to change the VOX delay potentiometer from 250k to 500k.
My solution is below, to add a 270k ohm resistor in the VOX delay pot line. Any more resistance made my unit VOX cycle on its on.
This is accomplished by cutting Pin 3 or Plug #4 on the AF Unit board on the bottom of the radio. Then inserting the 270k ohm resistor in that line. Covering with a slide on piece of insulation or taping.
