The United States cannot continue to squander the world's oil supply at ever-increasing rates. Our ongoing failure to meaningfully institute energy reform threatens not only the future of our own economy, but global survivability.
Dependence on "foreign oil" is not the problem. Oil is a global spot-price commodity no matter where it comes from. Regardless of the short-term inconvenience, the trememdous government subsidies to the oil industry must be diverted into a sane, sustainable energy policy.
