The top-level taxa are the kingdoms. Originally ther were only two: Plantae and Animalia. (Early scientists were prone to use Latin) Later the Microbiota were added. These are the subject of Microbiology.
More recently the microbes have been divided into three distinct kingdoms: Fungi, Monera, and Protista. Some of the Monera are bacteria. (Amazon seems to be confused about bacteriology)
