Either the ACT or the SAT are commonly used by college admissions boards to assess student aptitudes. The CLEP, DSST, and AP exams are used in determining class placement. Credit, usually pass / fail, is normally awarded for successful completion of these exams, but policies vary and you must consult your own particular college or university for details.
