The ACT test is used by more schools than the SAT, but that is no guarantee that the school you're applying to accepts it. The safest policy is to take both tests, or if you're sure you're going to be accepted at your first-choice institution, just find out which test they prefer. (It's usually one or the other. Very few schools accept both.)
