The social sciences involve the aggregate behavior of people, and they differ from the physical sciences in that data are usually expressed in terms of statistical probabilities rather than constants. While it may be impossible to determine the behavior of a given indiviual, social scientists can usually make meaningful predictions about the average or net responses of a given population.
