The NRA is the small arms manufacturers' lobby. They would never risk offending their best customers by intimating that the real reason for the second ammendment is that the founders didn't want defense entrusted solely to the military and the police. That's why they make ridiculous statements about infantry-style weapons "for hunting."

The toll of gun violence is not a result of too free access to guns, but too little personal responsibility by gun-owners. The best gun control is never to point your weapon at anything you don't intend to shoot.

In a debate too often characterized by extremists on both sides, this book represents the middle ground, advocating private gun ownership without precluding reasonable safeguards.
