Ecology is the holistic study of the interactive nature of the biosphere. Although it is generally classified as a branch of biology, the term is derived from the Greek oikos ("household") as is economics, which has come to be too narrowly defined as relating directly to money as opposed to it's original meaning "allocation of resources."
