Battles are short (usually not more than a day or two) violent clashes of armies. Campaigns are more protracted and less immediately decisive. Many Civil War campaigns and battles were named for local geographical features so a battle and a campaign frequently have the same name. Moreover, battles and campaigns may have more than one name, or two campaigns may have the same name. (This will take some sorting out.) Chronological order makes more sense for this information than alphabetical. For further help consult the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission (CWSAC)
