James Duke, one of the formost current authorities in the field of herbal healing, presents potential herbal remedies for over 120 common medical conditions. While this book is organized by ailment, more advanced herbalogists may prefer Duke's The Green Pharmacy Herbal Handbook, which is a bit more comprehensive, and is organized alphabetically by herb.
The Doctors Book of Home Remedies II
The people at Rodale / Prevention have been turning out quality products for a long time, and they're known for the accuracy of their research. That's an important consideration given the kind of incredible "snake oil" claims one finds too often in this unregulated area. You may also like Alternative Cures by the editor of this book, Bill Gottlieb.
The Herbal Drugstore
Those who prefer the assurance of a "real" doctor will appreciate this excellent comparative work by Steven Foster and Linda White, MD. It lists ailments with their commonly-used prescription or non-prescription tratments and the herbal countepart.
