Notes from the September meeting....Vera Moore reporting Sylvia Bern, facilitator, welcomed everyone Saturday, September 22, 2007 and gave a short lecture using points from “Why Being Active Makes You Happy.” (Parade Magazine, 8/5/07): Less Stress and Anxiety, A Better Mood, A Full Night’s Sleep. An Improved Self-Image. And A Sense of Spirituality. The results of the cards completed at the August meeting showed each person attending to be involved in some volunteer activity. Some at church, some at local hospitals, schools, fraternal organizations, and others. Volunteering is a very good way to help us with each of the Parade Magazine points. Following a discussion of pain or “discomfort,” as many of us name this problem, Sylvia called on Patsy Adams to tell of her experience with pain management therapy. Several others joined in telling of various methods they had found helpful. None had found the secret to successfully eliminating discomfort completely. It was reassuring to know teachers at area colleges are assigning students to visit support groups. We were delighted to have four of these students (see the * by the names attending) show interest in post-polio and give their Saturday afternoon to be with us. We eagerly gave a sentence or two from our life, helping the students know we had each attempted to live up to the high standard President Roosevelt set for us. We then answered questions. Sylvia congratulated Patsy Adams on being “published.” Patsy’s Letter to the Editor, was published in the Mobile Press Register, September 14th. Titled by the newspaper, “Kids still need polio vaccinations” the article contained a reminder that Congress has proclaimed 2007 the Year of Polio Awareness and that September is targeted for every state to proclaim Polio Awareness Month. The letter also served to remind the public, “We’re Still Here.” Get well wishes to Rus Ford and Bennie Steel. |
Notes from the September meeting....Leigh Dethlefs reporting We had 14 at our September meeting. Two of those were new. Nowlin Keener and Father Dan Vegan. We are always happy to have new people and it is amazing the questions that are asked. All of us have faced these questions and are never sure they are not our imagination. Clara Norsworthy talked to us about our very own researcher, Victoria. She is looking for good questions to ask Dr. Bruno. She is to interview him at some time in the future. Please contact her if you have a question. 341-5888. We discussed our Christmas party and decided to have it at our regular meeting December 15. The same criteria applies as in the past. We will get invitations out in November. We are very excited about our Halloween get together of both Mobile and Pensacola ~ Sat. Oct.27th at 1pm. See you there! Hope to see you all at our next meeting. SEPTEMBER 2007 ATTENDANCE
