We particularly appreciated the Personal Stories

Joyce Ann Tepley, in POLIO MEMORIES FROM THE CLASS OF 1952, ends her story with what she has learned over these past twenty years of dealing with post-polio syndrome. We share here just a few of her words of wisdom:

  • I learned that living well with the deteriorating effects of polio depends more on how I think and feel than on what I do physically. I can no longer count on my physical health remaining stable for a long period of time.

  • I am proud of what I have achieved despite and because of my disability. Polio is and continues to be my best teacher for as long as I live.

  • I have learned to think in different terms. When I think of rest as a state of mind, rather than an absence of activity, I have more serenity, composure, and calm. When I think of old age as a time of letting go of the need to prove myself and a time of accepting what is, in all its messiness, I feel my heart fill with hope.

Notes from the May meeting....Clara Norsworthy reporting

It was a beautiful Saturday morning May 19th with eight people at our meeting. It was good to have Pat and Ron back after months of Pat getting over surgery and rehabilitation. Keep up the good work, Pat.

Jane Clark brought her walker with a seat for us to see. It helps her to save her energy.

Theresa had been to see Dr. Peach and got a good report. While on the trip they went by the Warms Spring Clinic and the Little White House.

Clara brought her pictures from Camp ASCCA for the group to see. We had a great time and hope others will get to go next year.

Wayne fell and broke his leg in two places. We wish him a speedy recovery.      Shirley and Jim told us of a mission try they had been on with Nomads to Oxford, MS and Rust College at Holly Springs, MS.

We missed those who could not be with us for the May meeting and hope to see everyone at the June meeting.
